A Good Soak
Luxuriate in balmy waters as you gaze out at the Atacama desert landscape and volcanoes beyond. Hidden at the bottom of a gorge, the Puritama Hot Springs are a series of geothermal pools and falls created by the hot water of the Puritama river. The temperature is a pleasant 33c, ideal for soaking travel-weary limbs after a few days trekking in the desert.
Power and Glory
It’s an early start to get the best from a visit to El Tatio Geysers, the highest geothermal field in the world, but it’s well worth it as the fuming geysers are at their most active in the early morning. Watch the steaming craters burst into activity as the geysers spout high into the searing blue desert sky.
The Colours of Sunrise
This mesmerising display is even more magical at dawn as the water reflects the colours of the sunrise. Guided tours from the Tierra Atacama hotel in San Pedro de Atacama include a delicious breakfast, which is served as you watch the water columns dance.
There are some incredible high-level treks from the geyser field or you can opt for more pampering by wading into El Tatio’s geothermal pools. It’s another spectacular setting for a bath and yet another Atacama experience you’re unlikely to forget.
The indulgence doesn’t need to end there, stay at Tierra Atacama and you can make use of its lovely spa – book the private hot tub with views of the Licancabur volcano.
